The Different Types Of Facial Aging And Their Treatments

[sharify]

Has your face started to look flabby and droopy lately? Does the skin texture feel different? This may be because of facial aging. While aging is a natural process, premature aging can be overwhelming. It is believed that the first signs of aging start to appear between the ages of 25 to 30. That said, every person seems to age differently. Some people may notice frown lines and wrinkles due to old age whereas others may experience sagging skin due to an imbalanced diet. Below, we discuss the different types of facial aging and their respective treatments.

Types Of Facial Aging

To treat signs of aging on the face, it is essential to learn which type of facial aging you are going through. There are two main types of skin aging. These are discussed below:

Intrinsic Aging

Intrinsic aging, also known as chronological aging, is an inevitable and natural biological process of aging. In this type of facial aging, the skin loses its ability to repair itself. As the name implies, intrinsic aging is caused by internal factors. As you age and the skin matures, the skin becomes thin, loses its elasticity, and lacks volume. In intrinsic aging, an aging face is also a factor of genes. In that, heredity as well as hormone production are responsible for accelerated skin aging. It is also observed that intrinsic factors are only responsible for 10% of aging.

Extrinsic Aging

Facial aging caused by lifestyle, behavioral and environmental factors is a result of extrinsic aging. As the name implies, extrinsic aging is caused by external factors. In this type of aging, the skin is at the mercy of various external forces including sun exposure, pollution, lack of sleep, and poor diet. These factors lead to reduced skin elasticity and other common signs of aging on the face like wrinkles, saggy skin, and sinking face. While the sun is the number one culprit in aging, certain dietary habits like smoking can also cause accelerated skin aging. Research has found that 85 to 90% of aging is extrinsic and controllable.

Treatments For Facial Aging

Anti-aging skin treatments have become high-tech, targeting areas affected by facial aging of any type. While we have little control over intrinsic aging, extrinsic aging is preventable. The latter can be controlled with healthy diet alternatives, sunscreens, and the like. But when it comes to looking younger, you can always consult an experienced professional who can present you with multiple in-office treatments readily available to reverse the signs of aging either caused by intrinsic or extrinsic factors. Cosmetic procedures like chemical peels, dermal fillers, microneedling, and laser therapy, all minimize the signs of facial aging and give you a youthful glow.

Nevertheless, there might be two types of facial aging but the treatment options are far spread. Enlist a dermatologist and explore which signs of aging you are dealing with. This would help them customize a treatment based on your skin concerns and eliminate everything that stops you from having that younger-looking skin.
