Botox is a medical treatment that is used to treat several conditions. It is an injection that is made from a substance called microbes. Botox is used mainly as a cosmetic treatment. And works by paralyzing some of your muscles for some time. However, it is completely safe and FDA approved.
Doctors recommend Botox for muscle spasm, auxiliary hyperhidrosis and migraines. Off-label, it can also be used to control sweating on other parts of the body.
Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition associated with unnecessary sweating. In easy words if you sweat even when you’re not supposed to, say in an air conditioned room, you have hyperhidrosis. Many treatments can treat hyperhidrosis. Some are efficient, others are not. One of them is Botox. Botox can be helpful with this condition.
During the procedure, fifty units of Botox are injected around the sweat muscles in your underarm. This in turns blocks the nerves that send signals to the sweat glands to get activated. This entire procedure is for about 15 minutes and needs 15 to 20 injections.
Botox injections, like any other medical treatment works best when a professional does it. The entire procedure does not take long. And only one sitting can suffice for the entire procedure. The professional asks you if you need numbing or not. Most people opt for numbing because of needles. After this, the patient will be prepared for the Botox mix that comes in a powder form.
When all that is done, a map like figure is drawn on your armpits. Injection points are then mapped out for ease. The Botox injections are then injected in the body one by one. And you’re done! Botox will start kicking in, in two to four days. You can go back to work or your regular activities after it is done.
The professional will then schedule you for a follow up to check the condition. And to inject if any gland is missed out in the first time.
You also need to note that the Botox will only be effective on the under arms area. Other parts of your body will produce moisture like normal. This does not interfere with your other body glands in any way.
You must be at least 18 or above to get the injections. Also it is mainly advised for people who have severe auxiliary hyperhidrosis. But it can work for anyone who is of the age.
It is recommended to not make sure to not shave your arm pits two or three days prior to the treatment. Also you’re asked to stop taking the blood thinners two days prior. You can take your normal dose of medications unless the consultant specifically asks you not to.
After the treatment, it takes two days to a week for the Botox to kick in. But you can resume your daily activities right after getting the treatment.
Each body reacts differently to Botox. As Botox effects are temporary, some bodies might undo the Botox relatively faster than other bodies. That means they can last for anywhere between four to fourteen months. They have mostly been reported to last for six months.
It also depends on your daily routine. People who exercise regularly or engage in sweat inducing activities are most likely to wear out Botox in four months. Want to learn more about Botox for underarm sweating? Schedule a FREE consultation today with Flawless Skin Center!
